How to apply nematodes
Applying nematodes is not complicated. The most important thing is that they are spread evenly over moist soil, so they can seek out the larvae of pests in the potting soil themselves.
Important to know
- Nematodes need enough water to work
- Not using right away? Store in the fridge around 5 °C
- The mixing ratio is not critical — even spreading in moist soil is what counts
- Treat all plants at once to avoid spreading the pest
Step by step
How to apply the nematodes
Calculate the water
Work out how much water your plants need together:
- Small plant: ± 200 ml
- Medium plant: ± 300 ml
- Large plant: ± 400 ml
Make the concentrate
- Dissolve the entire sachet of nematodes in 1 litre of water
- Add NemaCharge straight away (if available)
- Stir well and let it stand for 5 minutes
Dilute if needed
Few plants (e.g. 5 small ones)? Use the concentrate directly, without diluting. More plants? Calculate the total (number × ml per plant) and top up the concentrate to that volume.
Apply
- Give each plant its normal amount of water
- Spread the mixture evenly over the whole pot
- Preferably in the morning or evening
Aftercare
- Keep the soil lightly moist for 10 to 14 days
- Do not let it dry out, but do not soak it either
- The nematodes seek out the larvae themselves and do their work
Guideline per plant
Always use the full pack per treatment and only use what you apply that same day.
What happens after treatment
The nematodes at work
Nematodes spread actively through the moist soil, searching for larvae.
First results visible — clearly fewer adult flies around the plants.
The pest is usually fully under control. Keep the soil lightly moist.
Optimal soil temperature
Between 10 °C and 25 °C
Within this range the nematodes are most active. Avoid bright sunlight on the soil and do not use chemical products before, during or after treatment.
Storage advice
Give them a cool spot
Nematodes are living organisms. Keep them in the fridge around 5 °C. That keeps them fresh until you use them — ideally as soon as possible after delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Good to know
Are nematodes safe for pets and children?
Yes. Nematodes are completely natural and harmless to people and animals.
Can I combine nematodes with plant food?
Yes, as long as the food does not contain chemical pesticides.
How quickly will I see results?
Usually within 1 to 2 weeks. With a heavy infestation it may take a little longer. For a persistent pest you can repeat the treatment after a few weeks.
